DON’T BELIEVE @LAPDChiefBeck on reason for dropping cop levels w no quality recruits to replace. THE REALITY=More officers have been relieved of duty under LAPD Chief Coward Beck, than previous three chiefs combined. That, and pay cuts have LAPD officer morale at an all time LOW. A feeling that they don’t take care of their own. Morale is SO low, cops turning to Zuma Dogg to complain to and inform; knowing I couldn’t just shut up and forget about it.

LAPD INSIDE MEMO!:  Tuesday, January 14, 2014, the City’s Executive Employee Relations Committee (EERC) discussed police officer salaries in relation to the LAPPL lawsuit and class action grievance. The EERC directed City staff to address the issue of starting salaries and step advancement during upcoming MOU negotiations. The Board of Directors is continuing to pursue a settlement agreement with the City regarding the lawsuit. The LAPPL thanks all of the members who took the time to contact the City Administrative Officer to request that the EERC consider this matter.

Last week there was a status conference held in the L.A Superior Court to assess whether the ongoing stay pending settlement negotiations should remain in place. Both parties represented they were hopeful for a possible settlement. The Court continued the status conference to April 9, 2014. The existing stay shall remain in effect until that date. In order to make sure the case moved forward in the event a settlement is not reached, the Court scheduled a hearing date of July 24, 2014 for the following:

1.Our Demurrer to the City’s cross complaint
2.Our Demurrer to the City’s Answer
3.Our Petition to Compel Arbitration

On Friday, January 31, there will be a meeting at the Daryl F. Gates Dining Hall at the Elysian Park Academy from 1100 to 1300 hours featuring a presentation by Richard Levine, the attorney handling the lawsuit, and Corina Lee, LAPPL Vice President. Lee is the lead on this issue regarding the process, various possible outcomes, timelines and what will be expected of the members when they testify in court. Levine and Lee will also be available to answer questions and address all rumors that are circulating.

The LAPPL needs your assistance to help accurately show the number of members who have left to work for other law enforcement agencies or left due to the pay differential. Once again, we have to demonstrate to the City that we have a recruitment and retention issue that needs to be addressed immediately. Please email by January 22 any information regarding former members who left the Department since January 1, 2010, and any member that is currently processing with another agency due to the differential pay. Your timely feedback will ensure that the LAPPL has a complete and exhaustive list to present. You can use the link below to send an email to differentialpay@lappl.org and give us information about members who have left or are currently processing with other agencies. http://LACityNews.com
