No One Can Really Tell The Truth Like John Walsh
WHO IS THE WORST REPORTER AT THE LOS ANGELES TIMES?
Please check out right here the Los Angeles Times Transportation reporter, Laura Nelson’s personal opinion on green lipstick, which she has the nerve to tweet on her for-the-record MTA transportation L.A. Times Twitter Account! Bored to tears with this assignment, is she?
No Times reporter except Ms. Nelson uses his or her LA Times paid-for Twitter account to share copious make-up & beauty hints! Betraying her lack of interest in what she is, after all, paid to report on! Her boss editor Mr. Shelby Grad is too involved in his life-long fight against morbid obesity to guide her reporting!
Meanwhile, for example, the real tale of how LA Mayor Eric Garcetti engineered the firing of MTA CEO Art Leahy quite intentionally for disobeying Hizzoner goes un-reported in the pages of the steadily declining in circulation Los Angeles Times because Ms. Nelson and her equally oblivious Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Grad, are both much too lazy to do the hard reporting and editing that’s necessary to break this embarrassing story!
There are plenty of other such MTA stories waiting forever to be exposed!
Ms. Laura Nelson rarely shows up in person to cover these crucial MTA monthly Board meetings, which have been chaired for the past 12 months by Mayor Eric Garcetti himself!
She once again failed to show up this past Thursday, June 25, 2015 to witness & report on the often odd goings-on at the MTA Board! Ms. Nelson now claims to have listened to the three hours+ long meeting by phone at some undisclosed location! Doing the reporting solely thru Ma Bell is so amateurish!
Two of her predecessors as the LAT transportation reporter subsequently won Pulitzer Prizes: David Willman & Eric Lichtblau. Don’t look for that distinction looming in Ms. Nelson’s future! She does little more to earn her hefty salary than dutifully paraphrase MTA’s press releases!
Two other excellent previous LAT transportation reporters were rewarded with a promotion to cover Congress. They are Richard Simon and Ms. Lisa Mascaro, who holds that post now.
Ask any of the four above mentioned reporters how accurate and how valuable my past tips were! Or simply Google John Walsh & L.A. Times transportation to find out how frequently in the past these same reporters have quoted or mentioned yours truly! Nowadays under the new LAT management, all my attempts at communication are studiously ignored by Spring Street!
Back then it invariably proved easy to pass on tips and embarrassing MTA documents to those excellent LAT journalists.
On the other hand, Ms. Nelson has never answered any of my e-mails inviting her to share my tips and MTA documents that are still being slipped to yours truly from the inside! She is a real team player. However, the team she belongs to is Team MTA!
For example, the MTA’s own commissioned report that has never been circulated or discussed at an MTA Board meeting focusing on what shocking shape MTA HQ currently finds itself in my possession. But The Times won’t touch it!
LAT Publisher Mr. Austin Beutner all the way down to Ms. Nelson simply are not interested in a scoop like this, which that might indeed in the final analysis prove quite damaging to MTA’s chances of obtaining still more transportation dollars out of U.S .Congress!
Reporter Nelson is, in fact, highly-resistant to any negative-MTA news leads! She appears to be solely centered instead on the subject of cosmetics, judging from many of her shallow LA Times tweets that appear for anyone to read!
She has quite recently sent a presumably sarcastic twitter message inviting me to subscribe to the L.A. Times to find out about MTA!
AS WE APPROACH THE L.A. REDLINE SUBWAY’S 25th ANNIVERSARY, YOU WON’T DISCOVER FROM ANY OF MS. NELSON’S TIMES STORIES THAT MTA RIDERSHIP CONTINUES TO FALL!
IN FACT, AMAZINGLY THE NUMBER OF1985 WEEKDAY BOARDINGS (BUS ONLY) WAS HIGHER THAN CURRENT 2015 WEEKDAY MTA BOARDING STATS (BUS AND RAIL COMBINED!).
It is now more than 30 years later and after more than $9 billion Prop A & Prop C as well as Prop R (cumulatively 1&1/2 %) dollars have been collected out of every single L.A. County sales tax dollar and then largely squandered by MTA, there is little to show for this gargantuan effort except perhaps a slight dent in traffic-gridlock here and there!
Not to mention the growing burden of MTA budgetary indebtedness created by building rail systems with borrowed money, accompanied by huge cost overruns! To compound the problem, most MTA rail lines have failed to achieve pre-construction ridership predictions!
The LA Times 20th anniversary Red Line Subway wrap-up story written by another Times Transportation reporter, Mr. Dan Weikel, came to this same conclusion about the ineffectiveness of rail public transit in trying to take even a tiny bite out of gridlock! And Public Transit Ridership has continued its troubling decline over the past five years!
That honest story was written under an LAT Publisher & Editor who have since unwillingly departed The Times!
Sorry to say … expect a dishonest story in July, 2015 that’s full of false praise for the imagined glory of rail transit, despite the persistently dropping boarding statistics ,worsened by a million more L.A. County residents than three decades ago; and let’s not overlook the hazardous, deteriorating, gas-filled tunnels & decaying subway station walls!
In the long run, Rail Transit in Los Angeles has proven to be little else than Politically-Correct!
